xbox 360 LEGO Star Wars II - Review Saturday, January 27th, 2007
Some of my favorite past-times are suffering from neglect and my toes are overdue for their monthly hooker red paint job, and that is a travesty. Worse yet, my blatant disregard for the ten little piggies comes with no honorable justification, no noble ambition or valiant effort towards some greater good, like shoe shopping. Instead, I have willingly spent the last 24 hours of foot abandon deeply immersed in Lego Star Wars II.
I got a tip about this game on dawngrrl.com (Thanks Adam!) after I finished tomb raider I wanted an another action type, figure it out, kind of adventure. It’s absolutely brilliant. A fast paced, well written and remarkably fun trip of pure digital enjoyment.
It’s a little buggy, on some of the flying levels you can get yourself into a funky recursion that loops your steering endlessly. However, I have only seen it with 2 players, and its easy to workaround. Have one player drop out and the come back in and all will be right with the galaxy. It’s not too difficult to get yourself stuck behind a tree or in a rut somewhere, but again, nothing you cant fix and nothing too serious.
This game has the best 2 player functionality I have seen. P-1 grabs a controller and goes to town, and a P-2 can hop in and out at anytime with no negative effect on the player, no restarting the levels, etc.
The game is right on with the movies and parallels the scenes and the characters very well. The humor is crazy funny, I laugh through all the cinematics. There is no dialog at all, just well placed sound effects and some Charlie brown teacher type mumbling.
This makes for some great creative opportunities, i.e., when its time for Darth to spit out the oh-so-famous line “Luke, I am your Father?”, Darth holds up a polaroid of Luke’s pregnant mother instead. Seriously…I about Pee’d my gamer grrl panties!
Don’t let the slapstick comedy and toy based theme fool you though, the game is technically challenging, and full of some hardcore action. From the fighting to the flying to using the Jedi Force this is packed with variety and mental demand!
All in all - thumbs up gamer fools! Give it ago says Dawngrrl, and let me know what you think!
May the force be with you!
Kiss Kiss,
Dawngrrl
